Our high-precision workpiece and tool motor spindles have become indispensable in the rotating, milling, or grinding of highly accurate and/ or optical components. As the “heart of the machine,” they feature patented bearing technologies and unparalleled thermal and dynamic stability, which are crucial for the machining results in terms of shape and surface quality while maintaining the automation level for CNC machining.
To achieve this, we first focus on developing the optimal spindle for the specific application before considering purchased components. It is no coincidence that the necessary developments of components such as tool clamping systems, rotary encoders, or synchronous motors result in a vertical integration of more than 90%.
“Ultra-Precision meets
CNC-Performance”
Application areas
Ultra-precision machining
Ultraprecision machining (UP machining) defines not only the component accuracy in terms of dimensions and shape, but also its surface quality. While many companies achieve high precision, others achieve high surface finishes. Combining both objectives leads to seemingly challenges seemingly impossible to overcome and shapes the definition of “ultraprecision machining.”
Although there are no precise numerical limits, a machine system can be defined as ultra-precise if its repeatable positioning accuracies in multi-axis operation and spindle errors are below 50 nm. Such machine systems are highly complex and require skilled operators. While the pressure to increase efficiency and automation continuously grows, Levicron’s spindle solutions have already laid the foundation for expanding into highly automated CNC machining.
Manufacturing processes include, among others, turning, milling, grinding, and polishing.
(CNC-)Precision machining
CNC multi-axis precision machining aims on highly automated and efficient manufacturing of components with dimensional and shape accuracies of less than 1 micron. The pressure to achieve better surface finishes to machine optical components is steadily increasing. However, with Levicron’s spindle solutions, a significant step has been successfully taken towards merging ultra-precision and CNC machining.
Manufacturing processes include, among others, turning, milling, and grinding.
Customized solutions
Our spindle solutions are mainly being used in ultra-precision and CNC precision machining.
However, Levicron products have successfully been adapted or developed for other markets such as the production of polygon mirrors for laser applications, semiconductor industries or measurement machines.
