Laser reflector hard milling

Mirrors are required for the accurate deflection of laser beams.

This example shows the machining of a laser reflector mold in hardened steel based on polynomial functions. Therefore, we used a 3-axis ultra-precision machine tool with a slow-tool servo function (rotary axis synchronized with linear axes) and our ASD080H25 with a CBN 3 mm CBN tool.

The aim was to minimize the machining time at a fixed maximum surface finish. The rough machining was done at 0.2 mm cutting depth and 0.05 mm/tooth feed rate per cutting edge and revolution. The finish machining was done at 10 micron cutting depth and a feed rate of 5 micron/tooth.

The surface result achieved a roughness of 18 nm Ra in 2 hours overall machining time.
