Subcon CNC Cylindrical and Bore Grinding
For Ultra-Precision machining spindles, the spindle shaft is a key component. Any shape or alignment error would later affect the spindle error, and with guaranteed spindle errors under 12 nm for our ASD-Px e.g., this means that CNC cylindrical external grinding is one of our key technologies. But not only the bearing faces of a shaft need to have exceptionally small shape and alignment tolerances and near-mirror surface finish. The better the spindle tapers, the better the tool change repeatability, run-out and balance. To achieve a dynamic tool run-out of under 0.3 micron and a tool change repeatability of less than 200 nm requires a total taper run-out of under 50 nm in our production. Same applies to the central bore of a shaft that allows to accomodate the draw-bar. With 20 mm in diameter and 210 mm in length bore grinding itself is already very challenging, but should this bore more than 5 micron eccentric to the radial bearings, the spindle would not be able to reach top speed, because the dynamic imbalance would cause the shaft to bend and would ruin the well-optimized rotor dynamics.
