Available Ultra-Precision Work-Holding Spindles are used to hold and position the work piece for turning or milling and lack of robustness, load capacity and thermal stability. A topic that has been risen by many customers is the sealing air function of our spindle products. To get any further question out of the way Levicron has developped the so called “sushi” sealing air test. See video ….;0)

The precision of a spindle, wheter or not it is used to hold the work piece or the tool, is defined by the so-called error-motion number. This number represents all asynchronous and synchronous spindle errors apart from the fundamental error – the run-out. Considering an electrical motor driven by a PWM drive and a high-speed spindle should make clear that measure values down to a nanometer level includes two issues. The amount of data required to directly measure a spindle error at high spindle speeds – as such above 50.000 rpm – and the incluence of high-frequency vibrations coming from the motor, can’t be recorded in real-time. Although there are methods available dealing with a reduction of these data, but Levicron have developped new FFT and multi-probe methods to measure nanometer errors at high-speed as well as high-frequency incluences from the motor.
